Our beautiful, historic sanctuary, the small, intimate Chapel, and Choir Suite are
lovely sites for your service. Our caring staff, both lay and clergy, are interested in each
couple and we want to make each wedding a unique and memorable worship service. This
booklet will help you in the planning of your wedding ceremony. Please contact us at
[email protected] if you have any questions.
May God’s richest blessings be upon you as you prepare this special service
celebrating your covenant of love.
Beginning the Process: Scheduling the Ceremony
The first step in setting up your wedding at East Dallas Christian Church is to make an
appointment with our EDCC Wedding Coordinator. She will work with you to determine
if our church calendar is clear for the date (s) at which you are looking for your wedding.
After the completion of the Wedding Application form with a 10% non-refundable
deposit to assure the date, you can begin making plans for the service and related items
(i.e., flowers, etc.) Half of the balance is due ninety days before your wedding date. The
final payment is due two weeks before your wedding date. We also require a $500
damages deposit at least ninety days before the wedding. The damages deposit will be
returned after the wedding if no damages are found. If damages are found, the couple
will be provided with an itemized list of damages and their cost.
We encourage visits to sit down with our wedding coordinator. Please make an
appointment with the East Dallas Christian Church wedding coordinator. Visits
made without an appointment may mean that no one will be available to show you
the space and answer the questions you may have. All arrangements for
weddings/receptions should be scheduled no less than two months
prior to the service.
Ministers/Officiants
One of the ministers of East Dallas Christian Church shall officiate at all wedding
services, if available. Ministers from other congregations and traditions are permitted to
assist wedding services at the request of the couple; however, they must be invited by
and coordinated with the Senior Minister of East Dallas Christian Church. If for some
reason none of the ministers of EDCC are available for the wedding date, the wedding
couple may seek permission from the EDCC Senior Minister for another clergy to
perform the wedding.
The couple to be married must meet with the EDCC minister officiating their wedding
at least eight weeks prior to the ceremony date for counsel and planning of the
ceremony. The EDCC wedding coordinator and/or the EDCC officiating minister is in
charge of the ceremony and the rehearsal.
If an outside officiant is participating, they should discuss arrangements for
counseling and planning with the EDCC minister. Non-church related wedding
consultants and persons of similar positions
Wedding Music Policy
All music for your wedding ceremony, including musical selections, vocalists, and
musicians, will be approved by the Music Director at East Dallas Christian Church. They
will gladly help you plan music that is appropriate for this important sacred ceremony
and that is also meaningful to you and your family.
There are some couples who have a good idea as to what music they would like for their
wedding. Other couples may be at a complete loss. Regardless of where you are on
this spectrum, our Music Director is here to help guide you to make this a wonderful
occasion for everyone involved.
Upon the receipt of your wedding application form, The Music Director will make
the initial contact with the couple or appointed contact person. Our goal is to have
all decisions finalized, and musicians contracted, eight weeks prior to the ceremony
date. A few stipulations:
• The EDCC Organist and/or Music Director will be given first priority in playing
the organ and/or piano for your Wedding Ceremony. If a guest organist/ pianist
is requested this must meet the approval of the EDCC Music Director.
• If you are not using Organ or Piano, and have your own hired, or guest, musi-
cians: i.e. String Quartet or Harp; the EDCC Music Director will still need the
specifics of who the players are and the musical selections for your ceremony.
• The EDCC Music Director has an extensive list of professional vocalists and
instrumentalists and will serve as contractor in hiring these musicians. This will
include arranging music rehearsals as needed.
• The use of bands (trap set, electric guitars, electric bass, and electric keyboard) is
discouraged for our EDCC Sanctuary.
• We here at EDCC hope your wedding is a joyous and meaningful occasion. We will
do everything we can to make the music for your ceremony extra special as well.
Depending on the complexity of music or number of musicians requested, there may
be an additional fee to cover the planning and organizational time of our staff.
There are additional costs if church soloists and instrumentalists are desired.
Outside soloists and instrumentalists (approved by the Music Director) shall be
contracted independently and therefore should be paid accordingly.
Rehearsals and Service Times
No wedding or rehearsal shall be scheduled after 8:00 pm on Friday or 7:00 p.m.
on Saturday. Sunday weddings will be scheduled after 3:00 p.m. but before 8:00 p.m.
All changes to the rehearsal and service time must be cleared through the
EDCC wedding coordinator’s office.
Rehearsal MUST BEGIN and END promptly as scheduled. All members of the wedding
party should be present 30 minutes prior to the scheduled rehearsal time. One hour is
allotted for the rehearsal. There will be a charge of $75.00 per 15 minutes delay, up to 30
minutes, at which time the rehearsal will be cancelled.
Restrictions
The policy of East Dallas Christian Church stipulates that no alcoholic beverages
may be consumed at any time, for any reason before or during the ceremony.
a. Objectionable Performances
i. All persons using the Sanctuary are to be mindful that the building has been
consecrated for the worship of God and other religious services.
b. Objectionable Persons
i. EDCC reserves the right through its security personnel to eject any
objectionable person or persons from the church. Upon the exercise of this
authority, through EDCC Security, said person hereby waives any right and
all claims for damages against EDCC.
c. Objectionable Objects
i. Rice, bird seed, flower petals, or confetti may not be thrown after the ceremony.
ii. Firearms are not allowed on the property during any of the wedding meetings,
ceremonies, rehearsals or receptions.
Flowers, Decorations, and Additional Wedding Resources
Florists or other companies or individuals who decorate the sanctuary or the chapel
or other church wedding locations shall be responsible for any damage which may
be caused by their employees or equipment.
Flowers around the chancel area should not interfere with the wedding participants
or the wedding proceedings. All floral pieces should be in waterproof containers.
Candles must be of the drip-less, smokeless variety and must be in a candelabra.
NO DECORATIONS may be attached by pins, glue, tape or nails to the pews, organ
console, furniture, carpet and other parts of the building.
When facilities are used on Saturday night, all decorations, flowers, and other
equipment shall be removed from the church building immediately following its use.
In order that proper custodial care may be maintained and the church facilities
made ready for subsequent use, the entire church premises must be vacated by
9:00 p.m.
Other EDCC items available for your ceremony:
• Votives in the stained-glass windows of the sanctuary and/or choir and baptistery
railings.
• Kneeling Bench
• Antique brass candelabra (4 candelabra with 7 candles ea.)
• Brass spiral candelabra (2 candelabra, 11 candles ea.)
• One brass arch candelabra (15 candles)
• Communion
• Unity candle table; candle to be provided by the couple
• Wrought-iron and glass guest book table in the lobby
Videography and Photography
EDCC regards the wedding ceremony as a worship service. As such, photography
and videography must in NO WAY distract the attention from the ceremony,
especially away from the couple. We request that all photographers/videographers
check in with the minister before the service.
The names of all photographers/videographers must be approved by the officiating
minister and wedding coordinator prior to the wedding.
All photographs before the service, in the sanctuary or chapel where the ceremony is
to take place, must be completed 45 minutes prior to the service. No exceptions.
Photographers/videographers may stand in the aisle underneath the sanctuary
balcony to take pictures as the wedding party enters and exits.
Videographers must film from a fixed position approved by the officiating minister
and EDCC wedding coordinator.
Wedding parties will have one hour after the service has concluded to take
photographs.
If photographers and/or videographers disregard the policies of this
church, they will not be allowed to participate in any future weddings
held at East Dallas Christian Church.
Safekeeping Personal Items
Every possible effort will be made to protect personal items such as wedding dresses,
purses, etc. However, THE CHURCH CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH
ITEMS IF LOST, STOLEN OR DAMAGED. For security reasons, we cannot accept
delivery of dresses here at the church. It is imperative that money, jewelry and other
valuables not be left unattended in the couple’s room, but entrusted to a reliable
person of the family’s choice, or preferably, not be brought into the church at all.
All personal items must be removed at the conclusion of the service.
Deliveries
EDCC assumes no responsibility for gowns, tuxedos, etc., delivered to the church.
EDCC suggests that, should the couple wish to have a delivery made to the church,
the couple selects a person to accept it and keep it in his/her custody until the
wedding party arrives. There is no secure space that can be made available.
By signing a wedding contract with EDCC, the couple agrees to the expectations
laid out in this policy. You recognize that failure to follow these expectations
(including following the timeline of payment) can result in the cancellation and/or
postponement of the wedding ceremony.
If you are ready to start planning your wedding at EDCC, please reach out to us at
[email protected] or by calling us at 214-824-8185.
