Just for Children
Newborn Nursery
The Newborn Nursery is located in the middle of the Children's wing, and is complete with several cribs and age appropriate toys for babies under one years old. Maria De la Luz is the nursery attendant.
Toddlers
The Toddlers class is for children 1-2 years old. The toddlers enjoy music, finger painting, and crafts each week in a classroom stocked with Christian based toys, puzzles, and games. Phoebe Gonzales and Mirtha Marchan are the teachers.
Preschool- 5th Grade
East Dallas Christian Church offers Sunday School classes for children of all ages. The classes are divided by age, with the Preschool class for 3-4 year olds, the pre-K and Kindergarten class for 5 year olds, and a combined class for 1st – 5th grade children . All of these classes teach Bible stories from either the Gospel Light or Cokesbury curriculum along with crafts appropriate to the ages of the children as well as some playtime after the lesson.
Also available to these children is Children's Church, which is held in the Children's Wing right after the Children's sermon in the 10:50 worship service. Old and New Testament Bible stories and Parables come to life through the use of the Jerome Barryman Godly Play curriculum. The children enjoy a light snack, participate in creative arts and crafts projects, and have fun singing with the Children's Choir. Parents pick up their children in Children's Church at the end of the10:50 worship service.
JYF (children 3rd-5th grades) meet once a month after worship on Sunday for fun, fellowship, study and service.
YOUTH
CYF and Chi Rho
CYF (9th – 12th grade) and Chi Rho 6th – 8th grade) classes meet for Sunday School every Sunday morning in the youth rooms upstairs. Beginning at 9:30 am our teachers lead us in discussions of faith and biblical issues. Most Sundays the classes meet separately; however, on occasion we meet together for a joint session.
Twice a month on Sunday CYF and Chi Rho youth meet following worship for fun, fellowship, study and service.
ADULTS
ConnectionsThe Connections Class is a class of twenty and thirty-somethings who meet on the second floor of the Minyard building in Room 1. The class has informal and open discussion about the scripture passage for the day and tries to determine what the minister will preach about. Any young adults are welcome to join us.
Dynamics ClassThe Dynamics class is located on the second floor of the Minyard building directly above the church offices. This class was started about 25 years ago for the 20-30 year olds. We are not so young any longer, but still very committed Christians. Don Morris, Sr. has been teaching the class for several years, normally following the standard church curriculum. We are a discussion oriented class applying the Word to living and raising a family in the 21st century. We welcome all visitors.
Fellowship Class
Do you want to be a part of a group who will share your joys and sorrows, and also make you feel needed and appreciated? Then come visit the Fellowship Class on Sunday mornings. In 1980 the Mr. & Mrs. and 2x2 classes came together to form the Fellowship Class. Later on the Williams Class merged with the group. Singles and couples (ages 39+) meet each week on Sundays at 9:30 for coffee and fellowship. We keep our voices in tune by singing a few hymns before we hear a wonderful lesson from the Uniform Lesson Series. We often have guest speakers to bring topics of special interest. Come any time you can, because we would like to get to know you!
Evans Class
In the Evans class, you can find beliefs and perspectives ranging from liberal to conservative (and everything in between) from people of all ages, both singles and married. With such a diverse group, you can naturally expect lively discussions on all manner of topics. What the class studies depends on the interests of the group and what is going on in the world. In the past, the Evans class has studied the faith of Islam, the book What Every Church Member Should Know About Poverty, and the first Christmas. We are confident that in the Evans class you will find a friendly atmosphere and a group that supports one another as we all seek to grow in our Christian faith.
Nehemiah's Friends
Nehemiah's Friends was founded to bring together the young adults of the church (both singles and couples), who were looking for new ways to serve the church. Not a typical Sunday School class, the group meets Friday nights after work (either at a member's home or the church) for food, fun, fellowship, and service. We always have a project going (such as the Halloween community carnival, the Golf Tournament, or the rummage sale), and welcome anyone who wants to serve God and have a great time doing it.
The NOW Class
The NOW (New Order of Witnesses) class began in 1969 as a young married couples class. Now in its 40th year, it is a mixture of couples and singles, ranging in age from 40's to 60's. The member-taught class utilizes a variety of lessons, including videotaped series as well as studies of contemporary religious writings, the Bible, and Biblical history. The NOW class has always served the community as well, working on many various outreach projects including Habitat for Humanity and a project dedicated to improving education and living conditions in African villages.
Sanders Class
Every Sunday morning at 9:30 members of the Sanders class renew their knowledge of the Scriptures, reinforce old friendships, and welcome new friends. Today the Sanders class has four splendid teachers, each of whom teaches once a month from the international series “The Present Word.” Class members also share their joys of success, birth, marriage and anniversaries, as well as their sorrows. Each class member strives to continue the philosophy of founder, Horace Sanders, who made certain that no active and believing member of this class was ever friendless.
WEEKLY BIBLE STUDY Every Wednesday morning explore God’s word with Rev. Morgan at 10:00 am in the Disciples Room. Sunday Mornings at 9:30 am, a 13 week bible study in the Choir Suite beginning on April 6, especially for visitors and those who are not members of a specific class.
